"My Mother's Ribbons"

For the "You can Create" showcase in Relief Society, I learned how to make ribbon flowers. I sewed some on my scripture tote for my display table. This was my first attempt and my flowers are way better looking since I made these. I now have some ribbon flower headbands listed on ebay and have sold three! Melissa is helping me start a little side business and we're calling it "My Mother's Ribbons."

Matt & Brandy's visit- Feb. 2010

Matt, Brandy and Baby Aaron were our first official guests. They fell in love with the Boise area (and espcially our drive up to Emmett).

Here is Grandpa Davis with his hands full of grandkids: Bailey Campbell (2 yrs old), Aaron Davis(6 months)and in the foreground is his fat little dog Bob who wants to play ball all the time. Aarf!

Aaron is always smiling. He is the happiest baby that we have ever seen.

Brian and I still need to explore the surrounding area so we took Matt & Brandy for a drive up to Emmett. It is about 20 minutes from our house over a few hills.

View of our kitchen before we moved our furniture in (with our wonderful realtor). There is a vegetable sink in the island and a "pizza oven" under the stove top. The house has a central vac with a "dustpan" built into the kitchen floor. I love that feature, just sweep the dirt into one spot and swoosh it is sucked into the canister in the garage.

Butterscotch is the perfect pet horse. He is house trained and always a gentleman. Karen bought it with the excuse that all the grandkids would love it but he really is Karen's baby. He was found at a consignment store in Boise for 75% off retail. Butterscotch can whinny, twitch his ears, munch on a carrot, blink his eyes, and will turn his head to whomever is talking to him. He doesn't actually move his feet but he makes a clopping noise when someone gets on to ride him. He is so fun to have in our front room when visitors show up and the horse whinnies to them!

The bonus room over the garage is quite large and filled with Melissa & Trents furniture and lots of Bailey's toys. She loves to go up into her "playroom".

The master bedroom is downstairs and still needs curtains.

Moving from Madera to Star Idaho

We rented a trailer as it was the cheapest method. Some ward members came over on friday (Late Dec 2009) to help us start loading and we ended up packing the whole trailer. Others came to help on saturday and we were gone to Fresno to stay with Mel and Trent. Our trip to Idaho was an adventure. IT snowed and Brian tried to drive his rear wheel drive light weight Toyota pickup through the storm. At one point he lost control and spun twice before resting on the shoulder of the road facing the opposite direction. The rest of the trip was white knuckle driving at 30 MPH. We arrived in Star around 11:00 PM (exhausted)

Jeff and Yolanda went to Idaho with us to help us move in. Jeff is making a snowman for Yolanda as she had never been in the snow before.

This year we had Thanksgiving at our house and all our kids ( and some spouses) were there. Karen's parents also came along with her sister Pam's family. We had a good time watching movies, playing games and after Thanksgiving shopping. We are lucky to have Casey and Rachel visit before they move to Idaho in a few weeks.

Karen helped put on a babyshower for Brandy (Matt's wife) who is due in January. It was on Saturday, so Rachel (Casey's wife) and grandma Parsons and Aunt Pam could make it also.

In Oct 2008, We got together with some old friends, the Beals, and had a wonderful time visiting Yosemite. It's the first time we've been there in the Fall. We had a great time and although the scenery was great, it was the renewing of our friendships that was the best part of it all.

Our ward had a Pinewood Derby activity for all members to participate in. Our family did not make a car, but Karen's Laurels made a "carrot car" that did better than everyone thought (thanks to Trent's wheel trick) Everyone had a lot of fun racing their cars.

What do Mormons believe?

With todays political climate, there is a great deal of confusion about Mormon beliefs. Not many chuurches today really come out and explain their doctrines. In an attempt to begin explaining Mormonism, I will begin with the 13 Articles of faith. These articles only partially explain what Mormons believe.

We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
